An allegory about vanity

When Handel arrived in Italy at the end of 1706, opera was prohibited in Rome, but this did not deprive the cardinals and aristocrats of the papal capital of the passions that great lyrical works used to procure, which they now masked in the form of oratorios. Handel was a quick learner. Supported by his powerful patrons (Marquis Ruspoli, Cardinals Pamphili, Ottoboni, and Colonna), his activity knew no rest until in the spring of 1707 he wrote his first oratorio, and he did so on a text by Cardinal Pamphili , an authentic Vanitasbaroque made music, insofar as the brevity of beauty and pleasures are invoked in the face of the rigors of Time. A fully Italian work, which Fabio Biondi will face at the head of his group Europa Galante and an extraordinary cast of international soloists.

Una alegoría sobre la vanidad

Cuando Handel llegó a Italia a finales de 1706, la ópera estaba prohibida en Roma, pero no por ello se privaban los cardenales y aristócratas de la capital pontificia de las pasiones que solían procurar las grandes obras líricas, que enmascaraban ahora en forma de oratorios. Handel aprendió rápido.
