En ouverture de ce concert, la pièce Gift de Tian Zhou, jeune compositeur sino-américain nommé récemment aux Grammy Awars de la meilleure composition classique contemporaine. Suivront Horse Racing et Hymne à l’amour, deux concertos pour Erhu, un instrument traditionnel chinois à deux cordes, interprétés par Gan Guo. La première partie du concert se terminera par une pièce pour piano de Qigang Chen, originaire de Shanghai mais qui vit en France depuis le milieu des années 1980 et a été le dernier élève d’Olivier Messiaen. En deuxième partie de soirée, The Song of Yangtze River de Shiguang Wang fera écho à un extrait des Pêcheurs de perles de Bizet. Et pour conclure, plusieurs pièces de Yuankai Bao, compositeur et professeur très estimé dans son pays. L’Orchestre Colonne sera, à l'occasion de ce concert, dirigé par Junping Qian, artiste en résidence à l’Institut commun du Conservatoire de Shanghai et du Royal College of Music, et qui vient de terminer sa première saison comme chef adjoint de l’Orchestre national royal écossais.

Opening this concert, the piece  Gift by Tian Zhou, a young Chinese-American composer recently nominated for the Grammy Awards for best contemporary classical composition. This will be followed by Horse Racing and Hymne à l'amour, two concertos for Erhu, a traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument, performed by Gan Guo. The first part of the concert will end with a piano piece by Qigang Chen, originally from Shanghai but who has lived in France since the mid-1980s and was the last student of Olivier Messiaen. In the second part of the evening, The Song of Yangtze River by Shiguang Wang will echo an extract from The Pearl Fishersby Bizet. And to conclude, several pieces by Yuankai Bao, composer and teacher highly esteemed in his country. The Colonne Orchestra will be, for this concert, conducted by Junping Qian, artist in residence at the Joint Institute of the Shanghai Conservatory and the Royal College of Music, and who has just completed his first season as deputy conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
