Many pieces in the history of music have nature as a referent. Symphonies, symphonic poems, woodland scenes, concertos, sonatas. More than describing nature, music helps to imagine it, to perceive its immanent, mysterious essence. The third movement of Gioacchino Rossini’s String Sonata No. 6 is named “The Storm” as one important reference of this relationship. But the Nordic authors also wanted to capture the majesty of their nature and their homeland. This is the case of the symphonic poem Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.

Muchas piezas de la historia de la música tienen como referente la naturaleza. Sinfonías, poemas sinfónicos, escenas boscosas, conciertos, sonatas. Más que describir la naturaleza, la música ayuda a imaginarla, a advertir su esencia inmanente, misteriosa. El tercer movimiento de la Sinfonía para cuerdas en re mayor no. 2, llamada «La Tempestad» es uno de los referentes por antonomasia de esta relación. Pero los autores nórdicos también quisieron capturar la majestuosidad de su naturaleza y su patria. Es el caso del poema sinfónico Finlandia de Jean Sibelius.
