Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's last opera Iolanta, written by the composer a year before his death, is rightfully considered one of his brightest works. The opera was written in 1891 based on the poetic drama King René's Daughter by Heinrich Hertz, the librettist was the composer's brother, Modest Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The main charm of "Iolanta" is that there is no mental suffering and anguish in it, no dramatic clashes. Before us is the inner world of the heroine, full of light, tranquility, harmony and clarity of spirit.

“I will write such an opera that everyone will cry,” said P. I. Tchaikovsky. And he succeeded, only tears appear from joy and happiness for the heroes. The story of Iolanthe is both a fairy tale and a romantic story.

The blind daughter of King René, Princess Iolanthe, lost her sight at an early age. Her father's love was so boundless that the king forbade everyone to tell Iolanthe about the possibility of seeing, and therefore the girl thought that she was no different from others. She was brought up in love, kindness and care, the princess grew up sensitive and gentle, not noticing the eternal darkness around. But everything changed with the sudden appearance of the knight Gottfried Vaudemont - he told the girl that eyes are needed not only to cry ...

King Rene desperately declares that he will execute the young man if Iolanthe does not see the light. But a quivering feeling in the heart of a fragile girl makes Iolanthe believe that someday she will see the face of a beautiful knight.

Последняя опера Петра Ильича Чайковского  «Иоланта», написанная композитором за год до смерти, по праву считается одним из самых светлых его сочинений. Опера была написана в 1891 году по поэтической драме Генриха Герца «Дочь короля Рене», либреттистом выступил брат композитора – Модест Ильич Чайковский. Главное очарование «Иоланты» в том, что в ней нет душевных страданий и мук, нет драматических столкновений. Перед нами внутренний мир героини, полный света, спокойствия, гармонии и ясности духа.

«Я напишу такую оперу, что все будут плакать» – говорил П. И. Чайковский. И ему это удалось, вот только слёзы появляются от радости и счастья за героев. История об Иоланте – это и волшебная сказка, и романтическая повесть.

Слепая дочь короля Рене, принцесса Иоланта, потеряла зрение еще в раннем детстве. Любовь отца была настолько безграничной, что король запретил всем говорить Иоланте о возможности видеть, и поэтому девушка думала, что ничем не отличается от других. Ее воспитывали в любви, доброте и заботе, принцесса выросла чуткой и нежной, не замечая вечной тьмы вокруг. Но все изменилось с внезапным появлением рыцаря Готфрида Водемона – он рассказал девушке, что глаза нужны не только для того, чтобы плакать…

Король Рене отчаянно заявляет, что казнит юношу, если Иоланта не прозреет. Но трепетное чувство в сердце хрупкой девушки заставляет поверить Иоланту, что когда-нибудь она увидит лицо прекрасного рыцаря.
