Will these lost souls meet in the light, or will the freezing void devour them? Find out as ‘Is this the End? #2’ spills its secrets, between April 21 and 24...

To start the opera season, La Monnaie commissioned a pop requiem from the Belgian composer Jean-Luc Fafchamps. With the title Is this the end?, this new piece has three parts, the first of which, Dead Little Girl, will be performed as a live-filmed opera in September. Ingrid von Wantoch Rekowski directs, aiming to give life to this ‘Mass’ of people who are half alive. Presented in a brand-new format, the show combines a film — shot in La Monnaie buildings — with live performances by seventeen musicians from La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra, eighteen vocalists from La Monnaie Chorus and three soloist singers. It will be broadcast live on our website.

To open the lyric season, La Monnaie commissioned Belgian composer Jean-Luc Fafchamps for a pop requiem . Under the title Is this the end? , this new score is broken down into three parts, the first of which, Dead little girl , is presented in September at La Monnaie in a hybrid form between opera and cinema , constituting a unique virtual experience to be discovered, not in our Theater, but from your living room thanks to our website . 

libretto Éric Brucher's puts us face to face with a teenage girl stuck between life and death and confronted with other protagonists who evolve in a transitory state: that of "departing consciousnesses". With the current coronavirus crisis, this show takes on a special meaning as many families and loved ones have been unable to say goodbye to the victims. 

The staging is entrusted to Ingrid von Wantoch Rekowski who proposes to give life to this "mass" of half-dead. Presented in an unprecedented form, the show combines a film - shot in the buildings of La Monnaie - with a 'live' performance. It brings together three soloists, seventeen musicians from the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra and eighteen artists from the Chœurs de la Monnaie.
