April 2023 marks the exact 110th anniversary of the composition of the cycle of fourteen songs for voice and piano based on poems by the German poet Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), which was carried out by the composer from Bilbao Andrés Isasi (1890-1940). within his period of apprenticeship in Berlin, by the hand of some of the most outstanding European composers of the time.

In his eagerness to rescue and value music that is patiently waiting in the archives, Rubén Fernández Aguirre, knowing that he was going to count on the good work and solvent voice of Vanessa Goikoetxea for this type of repertoire, commissioned the composer Carlos Ímaz tracing the original score.

The only surviving recording was made in 1999 by Javier Solaun and Alejandro Zabala, based on a copy that differed significantly from the manuscript, kept at the Andrés de Isasi Conservatory in Getxo. The reconstruction of the original work has not been easy, since to the usual process of deciphering the writing, the erasures and the errors, we must add the fact of the author's taste for making several versions, often changing, following his own musical evolution. staff.

After several months of intense work, the Teatro Arriaga is pleased to offer the absolute premiere of the complete cycle in its original version and language. The edition of some of the songs is kept in the archives, but others were not even certified by their usual copyist, so we can affirm that the complete cycle was never performed in public during the author's lifetime. The anniversary seems like the perfect moment for the theater to welcome the work of the Bilibaino composer as it was conceived.

En abril de 2023 se cumplen exactamente 110 años de la composición del ciclo de catorce canciones para voz y piano sobre poemas del poeta alemán Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), que fue llevada a cabo por el compositor bilbaino Andrés Isasi (1890-1940) dentro de su periodo de aprendizaje en Berlín, de la mano de algunos de los compositores europeos más destacados de la época.

En su afán por rescatar y poner en valor música que espera pacientemente en los archivos, Rubén Fernández Aguirre, sabedor de que iba a contar para la ocasión con el buen hacer y la solvente voz para este tipo de repertorio de Vanessa Goikoetxea, encargó al compositor Carlos Ímaz el rastreo de la partitura original.

La única grabación que se conservaba fue realizada en 1999 por Javier Solaun y Alejandro Zabala, a partir de una copia que difería sensiblemente del manuscrito, conservado en el Conservatorio Andrés de Isasi de Getxo. La reconstrucción de la obra original no ha resultado sencilla, puesto que al proceso habitual de descifrar la escritura, los borrones y las erratas, hay que sumar el hecho del gusto del autor por realizar varias versiones, a menudo cambiantes, siguiendo su propia evolución musical personal.

Tras varios meses de intenso trabajo, el Teatro Arriaga se complace en ofrecer el estreno absoluto del ciclo completo en su versión e idioma originales. En los archivos se guarda la edición de algunas de las canciones, pero otras ni siquiera fueron pasadas a limpio por su copista habitual, así que podemos afirmar que el ciclo completo nunca se interpretó en público en vida del autor. La efemérides se antoja el momento perfecto para que el teatro acoja la obra del compositor bilibaino tal y como fue concebida.
