Bloody water, frogs, hail and impenetrable darkness: "Israel in Egypt" is considered one of the most avant-garde works by George Frideric Handel and is also the composer's only oratorio that does not have an individual but an entire folk as protagonists. Handel sets the ten biblical plagues to music so vividly that one knows exactly what is happening even without the action on stage. His dramatic music transforms the Old Testament account of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt into an exciting listening experience.
