Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla wurde 2016 Chefdirigentin beim altehrwürdigen City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, wo sie die Nachfolge von Andris Nelsons, Simon Rattle und Adrian Boult antrat. Eingerahmt von Weinberg und Prokofjew wird Schumanns Klavierkonzert a-Moll, gespielt vom russisch-stämmigen Pianisten Kirill Gerstein.

Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla became Principal Conductor of the venerable City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 2016, succeeding Andris Nelsons, Simon Rattle and Adrian Boult. The rest of the musical world quickly became aware of the Lithuanian. Today she is one of a whole series of young, self-confident female conductors who are breaking into the former male domain with power and is now associated with the orchestra as a guest conductor. A special focus of her repertoire are works by Russian and Eastern European composers, especially those by Mieczyslaw Weinberg, for whose progressive rediscovery she is emphatically committed. Framed by Weinberg and Prokofiev is Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, played by Russian-born pianist Kirill Gerstein.
