"Knot an Opera! aspires to live—similarly to many of my recent works—on the edge between solemn and mocking, ambitious and trivial, (melo)dramatic and comic, traditional and experimental. It has many facets and aims to both surprise and confuse the audience. Above all, my intent was to simultaneously honor the genre of opera and to play with aspects of it that I find problematic. I did not compose this piece specifically for operagoers, but rather for anyone willing to either step into or outside the world of opera.
