Pianokonsert nr. 1 var Johannes Brahms’ gjennombrudd og første store orkesterverk. Paul Lewis er solist i og Elim Chan dirigerer.

Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) møtte på 1850-tallet mange av tidens sentrale komponister og musikere. Han gjorde inntrykk med sin uttrykksfulle musikk og spillestil på pianoet, og Robert Schumann utropte Brahms til en musikkens redningsmann. Forventningene ble tunge å bære, og Brahms brukte lang tid på å fullføre sitt første orkesterverk. Hans viktigste medhjelper ble bestevennen Joseph Joachim, en ungarsk fiolinist og komponist. Etter en lang brevveksling med Joachim ble pianokonserten urfremført i 1858.

Piano Concerto No. 1 was Johannes Brahms' breakthrough and first large orchestral piece. Paul Lewis is the soloist and Elim Chan is conducting.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) met many of the 1850s' most central composers and musicians. He made an impression with his expressive music and playing style on the piano, and Robert Schumann exclaimed that Brahms was the savior of music. The expectations became heavy to bear, and Brahms took a long time to complete his first orchestral work. His best friend, Hungarian violinist and composer Joseph Joachim, became his most important helper. After a long letter correspondence with Joachim, his first piano concerto premiered in 1858.
