On December 10, 1895, the »Club La Bohème« met - an artists' guild of writers and painters with whom Giacomo Puccini kept alive a common memory of his years as a student and as a bohemian. While his friends were drinking wine and playing cards, he composed - and suddenly called out from the piano: "Quiet, you boys! I'm done! «In a short time the score was written and the opera with the wonderful love story between Mimi and Rodolfo came onto the stage. Without ever having been to Paris before, Puccini captured the flair of the scenery as well as the atmosphere of a frosty winter day. Added to this is his sense of clear figure drawing, because the emptiness and barreness of the portrayal of nature make all figures and the "basic theme" of love appear even more lost and desperate, as it were lonely and frozen. Peter Konwitschny's interpretation followed the intentions of the great Italian composer and his librettist, who took Henri Murger's novel as a template, and brought an outstanding, sensitive and poetic staging onto the stage in terms of stage, costume and direction.
