La bohème de Puccini remains the opera of youth!

Based on Henri Murger's Scenes from Bohemian Life and premiered in 1896 under the direction of a (very young) Arturo Toscanini, the work is an energetic and poetic portrait of the daily life of a group of young artist friends who live, love and die (always madly!) in 19th century Paris. Naturally, there coexist here scenes of lyrical and refined intimacy, centered on the love story between the poet Rodolfo and the seamstress Mímì, and scenes of seething crowds, presented essentially in Act II.

The National Theater of São Carlos has welcomed some of the greatest opera performers since it debuted on its stage on February 11, 1897, from the world creator Cesira Ferrani to Ileana Cotrubas, passing by Alfredo Kraus, Gino or Tito Gobbi.

In this production, staged by the renowned Emilio Sagi, the mostly Portuguese cast is led by Natalia Tanasii or Susana Gaspar and Fabian Lara.
