Long before verismo exploited the theme of female infidelity from realistic charged with testosterone –and prone to the display of booming tenor highs–, Bellini approached what was then a thorny taboo with a care and an almost dramatic and vocal delicacy. oneiric. Set in the Swiss Alps, this semi-serious opera confronts the people of these idyllic lands – idealized by the romantics in William Tell , The Regiment's Daughter or Giselle – with their own pettiness, thrown into the void of mistrust and ostracism by the uncertain shadow of a vulgar suspicion. The somnambulism of the protagonist thus acts as the revulsive necessary to wake everyone up from a collective nightmare, while at the same time providing its climax to a poetic score that ended up becoming one of the most enduring and resistant icons of belcantismo.

This new production is carried out by Bárbara Lluch, a national promise who, after a decade of work in London, has presented Le cinesi , La casa de Bernarda Alba and La del manojo de and who, according to what is known , will present La sonnambula with a lucid modern and feminist touch.

Mucho antes de que el verismo explotara la temática de la infidelidad femenina desde perspectivas realistas cargadas de testosterona –y proclives a la exhibición de retumbantes agudos tenoriles–, Bellini abordó lo que era entonces un espinoso tabú con un cuidado y una delicadeza dramática y vocal casi oníricas. Ambientada en los Alpes suizos, esta ópera semiseria enfrenta a las gentes de estas idílicas tierras –idealizadas por los románticos en Guillermo Tell, La hija del regimiento o Giselle– a sus propias mezquindades, arrojados al vacío de la desconfianza y el ostracismo por la incierta sombra de una vulgar sospecha. El sonambulismo de la protagonista actúa así como el revulsivo necesario para despertar a todos de una pesadilla colectiva, a la vez que proporciona su momento álgido a una poética partitura que se acabó convirtiendo en uno de los iconos más duraderos y resistentes del belcantismo.

Esta nueva producción corre a cargo de Bárbara Lluch, promesa nacional que, tras una década de trabajo en Londres, ha pre-sentado en Madrid Le cinesi, La casa de Bernarda Alba y La del manojo de rosas y que, a tenor de lo conocido, presentará La sonnambula con un lúcido toque moderno y feminista.
