The Opéra de Saint-Étienne created the event, producing a work never performed since its creation in 1900: Lancelot , by Victorin Joncières. This great admirer of Wagner had a thwarted fate, and his work was long forgotten. Lancelot, on a libretto by Édouard Blau and Louis Gallet, evokes the secret loves of the Knight of the Round Table with Queen Guinèvre, which King Arthur will eventually learn. One of the highlights of this work is the scene of the lovers' forgiveness. This lyrical drama in four acts and six tableaux is therefore reborn on the stage of Saint-Etienne. The honor of this recreation goes to the director Jean-Romain Vesperini, who also recreated Dante de Godard at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne in 2019, the first cover of the work, 130 years after its creation. . The energy and talent of this director, just in his forties, responds to the outstanding personality of the conductor. This role falls to Hervé Niquet: founder and director of the Spiritual Concert, this conductor originally specialized in baroque music confirms his talent for romantic opera. The artists of today, Thomas Bettinger and Anaïk Morel, will also be admired, taking on roles interpreted by the great voices of the first twentieth century.
