Il periodo di Carnevale 2023 sarà animato al Teatro Goldoni da un nuovo allestimento e produzione de Le maschere di Pietro Mascagni, la brillante “Commedia lirica e giocosa in una parabasi e tre atti” che nel primo anno del XX secolo fu presentata in contemporanea in prima assoluta in sette teatri italiani (fatto straordinario nella storia del Teatro lirico). Fu lo stesso Mascagni, alcuni anni dopo, a dire in proposito su quest’opera: “Che cosa sono in fondo queste mie Maschere? Che cosa vogliono rappresentare nel teatro contemporaneo, se non un ritorno alla buona serenità della nostra grande tradizione e al sorriso della Commedia dell’Arte? Noi autori, sulla scena, non sappiamo più ridere: si direbbe che la meravigliosa vena dell’umorismo italiano si sia disseccata con Rossini. Io sono stato preso dalla nostalgia di quel bel riso immortale, e ne ho tentata una rievocazione”. Con questo spirito “mascagnano”, la prima rappresentazione avverrà “in maschera” sia sul palcoscenico che in Teatro: il pubblico sarà infatti invitato a presentarsi mascherato e, per chi non possedesse alcuna maschera, questa sarà fornita dal Teatro (costo incluso nel biglietto di ingresso della serata fuori abbonamento). Gli interpreti della replica (spettacolo in abbonamento) saranno gli stessi della prima.

The 2023 Carnival period will be animated at the Goldoni Theater by a new staging and production of The Masksby Pietro Mascagni, the brilliant "Lyrical and playful comedy in a parabasis and three acts" which in the first year of the twentieth century was presented simultaneously in seven Italian theaters (an extraordinary fact in the history of the opera house). It was Mascagni himself, a few years later, who said about this work: “What are these Masks of mine after all? What do they want to represent in contemporary theater, if not a return to the good serenity of our great tradition and the smile of the Commedia dell'Arte? We authors, on the stage, no longer know how to laugh: it seems that the wonderful vein of Italian humor has dried up with Rossini. I was taken by the nostalgia of that beautiful immortal laughter, and I tried a re-enactment of it ”. With this "masculine" spirit, the first performance will take place "in masks" both on the stage and in the theater: the public will in fact be invited to appear masked and, for those who do not have any masks, this will be provided by the theater (cost included in the admission ticket for the evening without subscription). The interpreters of the replica (subscription show) will be the same as the first one.
