Turbulent geht es zu in diesem Spiel um das Recht der ersten Nacht, geheime und weniger geheime Sehnsüchte und Verhältnisse. Das ganze Vokabular der Komödie mit cleveren Täuschungen, Verabredungen, gefälschten Briefen und den Schatten vergangener Leidenschaften wird mobilisiert und taucht diesen Tag in die Atemlosigkeit des Wahnsinns.

Im Zentrum von Beaumarchais’ Komödie steht das Dienerpaar Figaro und Susanna, das heiraten will und sich erfolgreich gegen seine Herrschaft zur Wehr setzt – im noch vorrevolutionären Paris ein unerhörter Skandal! Mozart und Da Ponte überarbeiteten in ihrer ersten Zusammenarbeit die Handlung für Wien und schufen eine der vollkommensten musikalischen Komödien der Operngeschichte: zeitlos in ihrer Menschlichkeit, raffiniert, voller überraschender Wendungen im Aufbau der Handlung und von einem überwältigenden musikalischen Reichtum, der jede einzelne der Figuren in ihrem Verhältnis zu sich selbst wie auch zu den anderen lebendig werden lässt.

At the center of Beaumarchais' comedy is the servant couple Figaro and Susanna, who want to marry and successfully defend themselves against his rule - an outrageous scandal in pre-revolutionary Paris! In their first collaboration, Mozart and Da Ponte revised the plot for Vienna and created one of the most perfect musical comedies in operatic history: timeless in its humanity, refined, full of surprising twists in the structure of the plot and an overwhelming musical richness that brings each of the characters to life in their relationship to themselves and to the others.
