Le nozze di Figaro Mozart

The resourceful Figaro, a few years ago Count Almaviva's barber and now his valet, wants to marry Susanna, the Countess's maid. Figaro himself had brought the Count and Countess together, but now Count Almaviva is after Susanna and trying to enforce the old "right of the first night". Although the Countess wants to win her husband back, she is tempted to give in to the impetuous wooing of young Cherubino. There are also Bartolo, the Countess' former foster father, and his housekeeper at the time, Marcellina, who want to have old bills and debts settled. A "great day" full of swapped clothes, intrigues and games of hide-and-seek makes the Count realize that the world seems out of joint...

The collaboration between Mozart and da Ponte began in 1786 with Le Nozze di Figaro . The three operas Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni (1787) and Così fan tutte (1790) are considered the pinnacle of Mozart's operatic output. With the setting of Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais' play La folle journée ou Le mariage de Figaro , which had premiered only a few years earlier, Mozart and da Ponte caught the pre-revolutionary zeitgeist. Today, the topic of the supposed rights of socially superior people is red hot again due to the #MeToo debate.

Der findige Figaro, vor einigen Jahren Barbier des Grafen Almaviva und nun sein Kammerdiener, möchte Susanna, die Zofe der Gräfin, heiraten. Figaro selbst hatte Graf und Gräfin zusammengebracht, doch nun stellt Graf Almaviva Susanna nach und versucht, das alte „Recht der ersten Nacht“ durchzusetzen. Die Gräfin will zwar ihren Mann zurückgewinnen, gerät aber gleichzeitig in Versuchung, dem ungestümen Werben des jungen Cherubino nachzugeben. Dazu kommen Bartolo, der frühere Ziehvater der Gräfin, und seine damalige Haushälterin Marcellina, die alte Rechnungen und Schulden beglichen haben wollen. Ein „toller Tag“ voller vertauschter Kleider, Intrigen und Versteckspielen lässt den Grafen erkennen, dass die Welt aus den Fugen scheint …

Mit Le Nozze di Figaro begann 1786 die Zusammenarbeit von Mozart und da Ponte. Die drei Opern Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni (1787) und Così fan tutte (1790) gelten als Höhepunkt des Mozartschen Opernschaffens. Mozart und da Ponte trafen mit der Vertonung von Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais’ erst wenige Jahre zuvor uraufgeführtem Schauspiel La folle journée ou Le mariage de Figaro den vorrevolutionären Zeitgeist. Heute ist die Thematik der vermeintlichen Rechte sozial höher gestellter Personen durch die #MeToo-Debatte wieder brandaktuell.
