Director Bernreitner has succeeded in bringing Mozart's comic opera into the present by adapting the libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte to suit the venue. It is no longer the castle of Count Almaviva, but a high school that is the scene of the action. There Figaro, Cherubino, Susanna and Barbarina now have to deal with the trials and tribulations of love in addition to the imminent graduation. Since the teachers are not immune to Cupid's arrows, the love affair at the school also picks up speed.

The Vienna Ensemble conducted by Raphael Schluesselberg brings Mozart's timelessly beautiful music to life in the BRG gymnasium, giving the singers the space they need for their outstanding voices. In the reduced white stage set made of paper and linen by Ina Reuter, the cast in effective costumes by Irina Hofer ensure an unforgettable opera evening. The two long-time "Opera around" comrades-in-arms Ivan Zinoviev as Figaro and Barbara Angermaier as Susanna are just as convincing as Peter Kubik as the jealous director Graf and Irena Krsteska as his charming wife.

Also on the teaching staff: Veronika Dünser as Marcellina, Johannes Schwendinger as Bartolo and Antonio and Savva Tikhonov as Basilio and Don Curzio.

Christina Sidak shines in the breeches role of Cherubino and Lucia Amenitsch, from Waidhofen, is the gorgeous Barbarina.
