METAMORPHOSIS OF MAGIC

Gaetano Donizetti (1797–1848), a master of the belcanto period and Italian romantic opera, had a strong influence on the development of opera during the period when the opera stars Rossini and Verdi were glowing. He has composed an enviable 75 operas in Italian and French, as well as numerous instrumental and vocal works. As a talented opera composer, Donizetti established himself on opera stages from Venice to Rome and Naples. In 1830, when he was invited to Milan, his opera was Anna Bolenaexperienced great success, established itself in the international arena overnight, gained independence from Naples and gained great artistic momentum. Donizetti's new works were lined up one after the other, he composed with extraordinary speed, and although many of them were in the archives, some operatic works were successful and are still a regular feature of opera houses around the world, especially Love Potion. (1831), Lucia Lammermoorska (1835), Daughter of the Regiment (1849) and Don Pasquale (1849).

Libretist Felice Romani summed up Scrib's libretto of Auber's fashionable French opera Le Philtre (1831) and transferred it to Italy, and Donizzeti then composed his fourteenth opera and the first completed work of art of the undemanding comic genre in just two weeks. Many place the work alongside Rossini's The Barber of Seville , in which the light-hearted story is intertwined with polished humor, and the opera is also distinguished by a distinct Donizettian melody, culminating in the popular cavatina Una furtiva lacrima.

The seasoned opera director Krešimir Dolenčić is returning to the stage of the Ljubljana Opera after the hit The Barber of Seville. The orchestra and singers will be led by guest maestro Simon Krečič.
