"Love Potion" by G. Donizetti - fragments of the performance of the Moscow Novaya Opera Theater. E.V. Kolobova

Created in just two weeks and staged in Milan in 1832, G. Donizetti's lyric-comic opera L'elisir d'amore was a resounding success. An entertaining and witty story that tells about the relationship of a couple in love; melodic, light and graceful music are the main components due to which this opera is one of the most popular to this day.

The legend of the magic love potion, which migrated from Gottfried Strasbourg's poem "Tristan and Isolde" to the comedy of the French playwright
E. Scribe, based on which Donizetti's opera was written, receives an unexpected parodic interpretation. And it opens up new meanings. It turns out that not a "miracle drink", but the people themselves are able to fill each other with an elixir of kindness and love.

Feelings covering the heroes of Donizetti's opera are eternal, like life itself: sympathy, coquetry, rivalry, jealousy. Therefore, the situation of the "Love Potion" could have occurred both at the Venetian carnival several centuries ago, and in a modern town.

Cозданная всего за две недели и поставленная в Милане в 1832 году лирико-комическая опера Г. Доницетти «Любовный напиток» имела ошеломляю­щий успех. Занимательный и остроумный сюжет, повествую­щий о взаимоотношениях влюбленной пары; мелодичная, легкая и изящная музыка – основные составляю­щие, благодаря которым эта опера – одна из наиболее популярных и по сей день.

Легенда о волшебном любовном зелье, перекочевавшая из поэмы Готфрида Страсбургского «Тристан и Изольда» в комедию французского драматурга
Э. Скриба, по мотивам которой написана опера Доницетти, получает неожиданную пародийную трактовку. И это открывает новые смыслы. Оказывается, не «чудо-напиток», а сами люди способны наполнить друг друга эликсиром добра и любви.

Чувства, охватывающие героев оперы Доницетти вечны, как сама жизнь: симпатии, кокетство, соперничество, ревность. Поэтому ситуация «Любовного напитка» могла произойти как на венецианском карнавале несколько веков назад, так и в современном городке.
