Having triumphed on the stage, Asmik Grigorian now brings her artistry to the recording studio with the release of her eagerly awaited first recording with pianist Lukas Geniušas, Dissonance, the first of many projects planned with Alpha Classics. Devoted to one of her favourite composers, Sergei Rachmaninov, Ms. Grigorian chose to present his intimate yet highly emotional romances written for voice and piano. “Most of Rachmaninov’s romances really demand operatic power. In fact, he wrote ‘mini-operas’ which last a few minutes.” Present throughout the album in many senses of the word, the theme of Dissonance refers to the romance Opus 34, to the contrast present on this album in general, and to the “internal conflicts” that mark these songs. In collaboration with her compatriot, pianist Lukas Geniušas, the powerful artistry of these two musicians is on full display, and, in contrast with the album’s title, in complete harmony.

Asmik Grigorian zählt unumstritten zu den derzeit gefragtesten Sängerinnen im internationalen Opernbetrieb. Ihren endgültigen Durchbruch erlebte die litauische Sopranistin als Salome bei den Salzburger Festspielen 2018. Seitdem hat sie in weiteren Partien wie Senta, Jenufa, Rusalka oder Manon Lescaut auch auf den Opernbühnen von Bayreuth, Wien, London, Berlin oder Mailand Triumphe gefeiert. Ihr Musikfest-Debüt gibt Asmik Grigorian nun an der Seite des russisch-litauischen Pianisten Lukas Geniušas, der beim Warschauer Chopin-Wettbewerb 2010 und beim Moskauer Tschaikowski-Wettbewerb 2015 jeweils die Silbermedaille gewonnen hat. Die sorgfältig ausgewählten Lieder und Romanzen von Tschaikowski und Rachmaninow sind komplexe Mini-Dramen, in denen es um große Gefühle wie unerfüllte Liebe, Zurückweisung, Abschied, Trauer und Einsamkeit geht – wie geschaffen für eine leidenschaftliche und charismatische Sängerdarstellerin vom Format einer Asmik Grigorian!

Asmik Grigorian is indisputably one of the most sought-after singers in the international opera scene. The Lithuanian soprano experienced her final breakthrough as Salome at the Salzburg Festival in 2018. Since then she has celebrated triumphs in other roles such as Senta, Jenufa, Rusalka and Manon Lescaut on the opera stages of Bayreuth, Vienna, London, Berlin and Milan. Asmik Grigorian is now making her Musikfest debut alongside Russian-Lithuanian pianist Lukas Geniušas, who won silver medals at both the 2010 Warsaw Chopin Competition and the 2015 Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition.
