Based on the coronation of the new British King Charles III. the Munich Motet Choir sings the 'Coronation Anthems'. George Frideric Handel composed the coronation hymns as a commission for the coronation of the then King George II, which took place in Westminster Abbey in 1727. Since then, the anthems have had a permanent place in various royal celebrations of the British monarchy. 'Zadok the Priest' – probably the most well-known of the 'Coronation Anthems' – has been heard at every coronation of the royal family since its inception; most recently in 1953 for Queen Elizabeth II, 70 years later and almost 300 years after the inauguration of George II, another heir to the throne is crowned at Westminister Abbey. A wonderful occasion to perform the anthems here in Munich. The choir will also sing parts of Handel's oratorio 'Messiah', accompanied by the soprano Judith Spießer. The orchestra in residence completes the program with excerpts from the 'Water Music – Suite No. 1'.

Angelehnt an die Krönung des neuen britischen Königs Charles III. singt der Münchner Motettenchor die ‚Coronation Anthems‘. Die Krönungshymnen komponierte Georg Friedrich Händel als Auftragswerk zum Anlass der Krönung des damaligen Königs George‘s II., die sich 1727 in Westminster Abbey ereignete. Seitdem haben die Hymnen einen festen Platz in diversen royalen Feierlichkeiten der britischen Monarchie. ‚Zadok the Priest‘ – die wohl bekannteste der ‚Coronation Anthems‘ – erklingt seit ihrer Entstehung bei jeder Krönung des Königshauses; zuletzt 1953 für Königin Elisabeth II., 70 Jahre später und fast 300 Jahre nach der Amtseinführung George‘s II. wird nun erneut ein Thronfolger im Westminister Abbey gekrönt. Ein wunderbarer Anlass, um die Hymnen auch bei uns in München zur Aufführung zu bringen. Zudem singt der Chor Teile aus Händels Oratorium ‚Messiah‘, in Begleitung der Sopranistin Judith Spießer. Das Residenzorchester vervollständigt das Programm mit Ausschnitten aus der ‚Wassermusik – Suite Nr. 1‘.
