Vox Luminis – die Stimme des Lichts – ist nicht nur der Name des 2004 gegründeten belgischen Ensembles, es ist auch sein Markenkern. Es sei der Klang von heller Strahlkraft gewesen, den er immer im Kopf gehabt habe, sagt Leiter Lionel Meunier. Glasklare Stimmen, tadellose Intonation und perfekte Homogenität sind dementsprechend seit Jahren auf den internationalen Podien Garant für Vokalkunst vom Feinsten. Warum also nicht gezielt einen Lobpreis auf die Macht der Musik singen? Diese Möglichkeit bietet Händel mit seiner Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day von 1739, eine farbenprächtige Hommage an die Schutzpatronin der Musik. Bachs Magnificat in Es-Dur wiederum entstand 1723 während seines ersten Dienstjahres als Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Mit Chor und Gesangssolist*innen sowie einem festlichen barocken Instrumentarium dürfte es wohl seine bis dahin ambitionierteste und virtuoseste Vokalkomposition gewesen sein, sozusagen seine Visitenkarte im neuen Amt. Vox Luminis wiederum – noch eine Besonderheit! – braucht dafür keinen Dirigenten: Lionel Meunier fungiert als »primus inter pares« und leitet als mitsingender Bassist die Aufführung.

Vox Luminis - the voice of light - is not only the name of the Belgian ensemble founded in 2004, it is also its brand essence. It was the sound of bright radiance that he always had in mind, says manager Lionel Meunier. Crystal-clear voices, impeccable intonation and perfect homogeneity have been a guarantee for the finest vocal art on the international podium for years. So why not purposefully sing praises to the power of music? Handel offers this possibility with his Ode for St. Cecilia's Day from 1739, a colorful homage to the patron saint of music. Bach's Magnificat in E flat major was written in 1723 during his first year as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. With a choir and vocal soloists as well as a festive baroque set of instruments, it was probably his most ambitious and most virtuoso vocal composition to date, his calling card, so to speak, in his new position. Vox Luminis again - another special feature! – does not need a conductor for this: Lionel Meunier acts as »primus inter pares« and directs the performance as a bassist who sings along.
