»A fascinating, multi-layered work«, which is best heard several times - this is what one critic wrote of Brett Dean's Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra from 2018. Here the cello swims in an impulsive and continuous stream of sound from which one can hardly resist, full of color and lyrical melodic ideas. It's one of those special contemporary works that has to be heard.

Side by side with Jessie Montgomery's energetic chamber music piece 'Strum', a unique musical flow is created here that leads back to historical America: Starting with folk idioms, dances and the spirit of movement, Montgomery tells how nostalgia turns into an ecstatic celebration.

Together with Antonín Dvořák's legendary Ninth Symphony, the evening turns into a highly topical convolute of past and future, sweet and bitter, strength and calm - and merges memories of home with quiet wanderlust.
