For four soloists, mixed choir and echoing boys' choir, one trumpet, strings and two organs

Carl Rütti evokes the composition of his work in these terms:

Writing sacred music has always been a profound fulfillment for me, but also a huge challenge. I always feel a great responsibility when I set spiritual content to music. This was especially the case when composing the Messe Saint Nicolas de Flüe. For the sixth time in 40 years, I have tried to trace this unimaginable life, this abyssal mystique and intimate veneration of the Eucharist! Brother Nicolas' visions are so incredibly rich in musical imagery and mystery that it is worth continuing to draw inspiration from them.

The representations of the visions of Saint Nicholas of Flüe are here essentially set to music from the texts of the Latin Ordinary (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus-Benedictus, Agnus Dei) and other parts of the mass. "My Lord and my God", a well-known prayer is obviously present and can be heard four times during the work:

For the Offertory, I wrote a new harmonization for a capella choir.
During Communion, I repeat the same composition but in a dialogue between the choir and the orchestra.
During the final song, the public can join the choristers to sing JG Scheel's well-known chorale.
Finally, in the Obwalden call to prayer, the choir sings in its original version the "O myn Got".
In addition, the children's choir sings in the distance the invocations of the "Our Father" throughout the duration of the work, recalling the annual pilgrimage that Saint Nicolas made to Einsiedeln and throughout which he recited the "Our Father ".
