90 YEARS FRITS CELIS
Jan Michiels and I SOLISTI unite Mozart, Celis and Poulenc in a ravishing glorification of the wind and piano sound; a homage across three generations and nationalities.

Beautiful micro-orchestrations unravel and fuse the rich nuances in the horn sound. In Quintet for Piano and Winds (1784), Mozart, revealing a refined and colorful tapestry of sounds, allows short, varied motifs to travel through the instruments. The astonishing unification of piano and wind instruments was unseen in Mozart's time. In his Fantasia sopra qualche vecchie canzoni fiamminghe  (1993), Celis also threads the instruments and melodies into a unique and rich fusion of the different timbres. I SOLISTI festively dedicates the work to the special Flemish composer Frits Celis himself, who celebrates his 90th birthday this year. After the heavy romanticism and influences of Wagner, Poulenc brought relief with his humorous, apparently simple and melodious music. AreSextet (1939) for piano and wind instruments gracefully swings one melody after the other, followed by an honest and poignant middle section. Poulenc spent nine years perfecting this sextet and although it was initially criticized, it was eventually hailed as his most popular work.

Jan Michiels en I SOLISTI verenigen Mozart, Celis en Poulenc in een ravissante verheerlijking van de blazersklank met piano; een hommage over drie generaties en nationaliteiten heen.

Prachtige micro-orkestraties ontrafelen en versmelten de rijke nuances in de blazersklank. In Kwintet voor piano en blazers (1784) laat Mozart, een verfijnd en kleurrijk klankentapijt onthullend, korte gevarieerde motieven door de instrumenten reizen. De verbluffende eenwording van piano en blazers was ongezien in Mozarts tijd. Ook Celis rijgt in zijn Fantasia sopra qualche vecchie canzoni fiamminghe (1993) de instrumenten en melodieën tot een unieke en rijke versmelting van de verschillende timbres. I SOLISTI draagt het werk feestelijk op aan de bijzondere Vlaamse componist Frits Celis zelf, want die viert dit jaar zijn 90ste verjaardag. Na de zware romantiek en invloeden van Wagner bracht Poulenc verademing met zijn humoristische, schijnbaar eenvoudige en melodieuze muziek. Zijn Sextet (1939) voor piano en blazers swingt zwierig de ene melodie na de andere, gevolgd door een integer en aangrijpend middendeel. Negen jaar lang perfectioneerde Poulenc dit sextet en hoewel het aanvankelijk de wind van voren kreeg, werd het uiteindelijk als zijn populairste werk onthaald.
