He is one of the greats of American rock music: Oscar and Tony Award winner, 20-time Grammy winner - and more than 60 million albums sold make him one of the most successful musicians ever. His sometimes melancholy, sometimes powerful, earthy songs have won a huge fan base worldwide. Again and again autobiographical elements are reflected in the songs: his difficult relationship with his father, his background from the working class, but also social issues such as the rural exodus in the USA or the everyday racism in the provinces. His experiences in childhood and adolescence - growing up in a small town in New Jersey, in a parental home that was shaped by the choleric father who failed to develop an emotional relationship with his children, - flow into his songs. With a mixture of anger, the longing for escape and freedom, but also with wistful nostalgia, he describes his roots and at the same time expresses what worries the "little man" from the street.
