The Old Testament history of the Babylonian invasion of Jerusalem, the struggle of the court parties for power and captivity of the Israelites are the basis of the opera, which in Verdi's time touched the Italian audience, becoming a metaphor for the struggle of the awakening Italian nation from Austrian domination.

A great role in this was played by the great music, which at times raised the music, which led to the intervention of censorship and the ban on staging the performance. A special moment is the second edition of Act III, styled by the librettist like a scene from the psalm 136 Super Flumina Babylonis . You can hear the nostalgic and moving song of the oppressed "Va ', pensiero, sull'ali dorate ...".

There are also other beautiful fragments in Nabucco that are touching, although the political context of the piece is only history.

Starotestamentowa historia najazdu babilońskiego na Jerozolimę, walka dworskich stronnictw o władzę i niewola Izraelitów są kanwą opery, która w czasach Verdiego poruszała publiczność włoską, stając się metaforą zmagań budzącego się narodu włoskiego z austriackiej dominacji.

Ogromną rolę odegrała w tym wspaniała, momentami podniosła muzyka, co doprowadziło do interwencji cenzury i zakazu wystawiania spektaklu. Szczególnym momentem jest odsłona druga III aktu, wystylizowana przez librecistę jak scena z psalmu 136 Super flumina Babylonis. Słychać w niej nostalgiczną i przejmującą pieśń uciemiężonych „Va', pensiero, sull'ali dorate...”.

Nie brak też w Nabucco innych, pięknych fragmentów, które wzruszają, choć polityczny kontekst utworu jest już tylko historią.
