The concert opens with Bent Sørensen's beautiful sounding Aftenland, which draws its inspiration from Sørensen's childhood memories of Danish nature mixed with impressions from the hectic city life in New York, which the mature Sørensen became acquainted with.

Nielsen's flute concerto received a magnificent reception at its premiere in Paris. The concert exudes French elegance and Nordic sound, and the soloist Emily Beynon gets plenty of opportunity in the concert to show all the beautiful sounds and moods of the flute.

The first symphony by Sibelius is rich in poignant themes and melodies, which move in the borderland between Finnish national romanticism and French late-romantic sound refinement.
