17 years later, CHIEN Wen-pin and LI Huan-hsiung are once teaming up to present Bellini's most illustrious work Norma! While Maria Callas's "Casta Diva" has continued to make appearances in films and TV programs, Norma has become the most popular opera among Italian bel canto operas. This pagan priestess set during the Roman era in 1st century B.C. in the Gaul district has won the hearts of audiences with her both her boldness to love and boldness to hate. The final act where she drops all of her emotional entanglements, forgiving everything and rushing toward her fire sentence, has moved innumerable audience members to tears throughout these past almost 200 years. 17 years ago, CHIEN Wen-pin, then an artistic director, chose Norma as National Symphony Orchestra's opera of the year and invited director LI Huan-hsiung for a collaborative performance around the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005. At the time, they used the "time-leaping" concept of presenting a stage incorporated with features from different eras to reflect the eternity of the plot's theme, and the performance gained enormous attention and reception. In 2021, the two partners CHIEN Wen-pin and LI Huan-hsiung, after collaborating for Turandot, will be presenting Norma in Weiwuying's opera house, once more delivering Norma's legendary allure!
