Opera vznikla a bude uváděna v rámci projektu „Play Ibsen! – divadelní inscenace s doprovodným programem“, podpořeného grantem z Islandu, Lichtenštejnska a Norska z Fondů EHP 2014 – 2021. Projekt dále podpořili: SFK, MHMP a MKČR.

Před 140 lety dopsal Henrik Ibsen hru Přízraky. Divadla v Kristianii, Stockholmu a v Kodani odmítla hru inscenovat. Světová premiéra se odehrála v Chicagu. Tématem hry jsou lži, strach, konvence, pokrytectví a přetvářka. Skandálním bylo tehdy také nastolení tématu eutanázie. Tématu třaskavého dodnes. Režisér Jan Nebeský nastudoval hru před 30 lety jako svou první inscenaci Ibsena a na ibsenovském festivalu v Oslu inscenace vzbudila velký rozruch svým radikálním výkladem. Po sedmi dalších Ibsenových hrách se Jan Nebeský vrací k Přízrakům, aby je radikálně posunul v žánru. Ibsen jako opera přinese nové a nečekané možnosti ve výkladu a vnímání této navýsost naturalistické hry. Autorem hudby bude Matouš Hejl, autorkou libreta Lucie Trmíková.

Tvorba Matouše Hejla zasahuje do oblasti vážné hudby, experimentální elektronické hudby, filmu, divadla a instalačního umění. V roce 2018 se stal finalistou skladatelské soutěže České filharmonie, která uvedla jeho skladbu Crossings. Je držitelem ceny za soudobou hudbu Trochu nižší C4 2018 nebo Ceny Karla Krautgartnera 2016 za nejlepší skladbu pro jazzový orchestr. Za hudbu pro filmy Ztraceni v Mnichově a Staříci byl nominován na Českého lva. Opakovaně spolupracoval s Orchestrem Berg, se kterým mimo jiné v letech 2019 a 2020 zrealizoval imerzivní kompozici Prolínám, stmívám. Hejl se narodil v roce 1989 v Praze, skladbu studoval ve Stockholmu na Royal College of Music, na pražské Akademie múzických umění a Berklee College of Music v Bostonu.

140 years ago, Henrik Ibsen finished the play Ghosts. Theaters in Kristiania, Stockholm and Copenhagen refused to stage the play. The world premiere took place in Chicago. The themes of the play are lies, fear, convention, hypocrisy and pretense. Bringing up the subject of euthanasia was also scandalous at the time. The theme of the explosion to this day. Director Jan Nebeský staged the play 30 years ago as his first Ibsen production, and at the Ibsen Festival in Oslo, the production caused a great stir with its radical interpretation. After seven more Ibsen plays, Jan Nebeský returns to Ghosts to radically shift the genre. Ibsen as an opera will bring new and unexpected possibilities in the interpretation and perception of this supremely naturalistic play. The author of the music will be Matouš Hejl, the author of the libretto is Lucie Trmíková.

Matouš Hejlo 's  work  spans the fields of classical music, experimental electronic music, film, theater and installation art. In 2018, he became a finalist in the composition competition of the Czech Philharmonic, which performed his composition Crossings. He is the recipient of the 2018 Little Lower C4 Contemporary Music Award or the 2016 Karl Krautgartner Award for Best Composition for Jazz Orchestra. He was nominated for the Czech Lion for the music for the films Lost in Munich and The Old Ones. He repeatedly collaborated with the Berg Orchestra, with whom, among other things, in 2019 and 2020 he realized the immersive composition I'm going, I'm getting dark. Hejl was born in 1989 in Prague, studied composition in Stockholm at the Royal College of Music, at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and Berklee College of Music in Boston.
