The second orchestra to partake in this festival focused on Russian culture is much younger, but just as famous as its illustrious elder from the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. In 1990, pianist and conductor Mikhaïl Pletnev caused a sensation by creating the Russian National Orchestra, the very first non-governmental orchestra to receive support from the Russian Federation. The ensemble's high level of performance immediately found wide international acclaim. For this first concert in Montreux, the orchestra and its founding conductor will be accompanied by the young Moldovan star violinist Alexandra Conunova, the mezzo-soprano Polina Shamaeva, the tenor Yury Rostotsky and the Glinka Choir. Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto will be coming back to its roots for since it was here on the shores of Lake Geneva that the work was composed. It will be paired with Scriabine's Symphony Nº 1, a beautiful piece that would gain to be better known.
