According to the old legend, Orpheus himself used his talent for singing to make animals and stones cry with emotion. In Offenbach's lively parody of myth, however, he has little desire to save his wife Eurydice from the underworld with his singing skills. Because Orpheus has meanwhile cast an eye on the nymph Chloé. Only under pressure from public opinion does he set out to save his wife and go to the underworld.

As part of the Opera Experience format , the Tortugas youth opera club and pupils from secondary schools are approaching the “Orpheus” myth. Offenbach's Opéra bouffe offers young people the starting point for a humorous and sharp parody of the
illusory world of every high society

In lineExperiencing opera , the members of the Tortugas celebrated great successes together with numerous students, for example with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Beethoven's Last Night . The production, developed together with the team from the Dortmund Opera and the teachers from the schools, will be performed on the big stage in the opera house at the beginning of June 2021.
