Ouverture spirituelle - Claudio Abbado dirigiert Messen von Mozart und Schubert
Oratorio / Orchestral
The 2012 concert season of the Salzburg Festival began with a new series of sacred music entitled "Ouverture Spiritual". The program of this concert from the House for Mozart includes the Mass in C minor K. 139 "Orphanage Mass" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Mass in E flat major D 950 by Franz Schubert. Claudio Abbado, born in Milan in 1933, was one of the most famous concert and opera conductors. Great empathy and decades of experience distinguished him as an important musician. Claudio Abbado made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in his hometown in 1960 and was its music director from 1968 to 1986. He conducted the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time in 1965 and was music director of the Vienna State Opera from 1986 to 1991. In 1966 he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time, which in 1989 elected him to succeed Herbert von Karajan as its permanent conductor and artistic director. From 1979 to 1988 he was chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1981 he founded the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which emerged from the European Community Youth Orchestra and includes 50 musicians from 15 countries. In 1986 he founded the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra with the aim of promoting young talent from different countries. From 1994 to 2002 Claudio Abbado was artistic director of the Salzburg Easter Festival. In 1997 he founded the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. After leaving Berlin in 2002, Claudio Abbado took over the direction of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra in 2003, which builds on the great tradition of the Swiss Festival Orchestra once founded for Arturo Toscanini. Since 2004 he has also conducted the Orchestra Mozart Bologna, which he founded. His repertoire included works from JS Bach to Nono. Claudio Abbado has received numerous important prizes and awards, including the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize and the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Italian President Giorgio Napolitano appointed him a senator for life. Claudio Abbado died in Bologna on January 20, 2014.
