The fallen angel Lucifer believes that there is a worm in God's creation. Lilith, Adam's first wife, shares a similar view. She was cast out of paradise because she rebelled against Adam's claim to power - after all, she had been created from clay by God to be his equal. But Adam was not alone for long, a new companion was formed from his rib: the more docile Eve. Driven by Lilith, Lucifer realizes that his only chance of getting even with God lies in manipulating Adam: On a journey through time, Lucifer shows the prehistoric people the future of their descendants. Wouldn't it be better if there were no more human beings?

Contrasting characters, a journey from prehistoric times to the future, from paradise to all too human hells - Peter Eötvös' colorful and expressive music makes this story shine in all its diversity. The Hungarian composer had already dealt with the themes of Genesis in his opera The Tragedy of the Devil . While there the devil Lucifer was the focus of the action, in Paradise Reloaded (Lilith) , which premiered in 2013, Eötvös focuses on the dazzling figure of the first woman who, although stamped as a demon, ultimately even puts the devil in his place. From which do you think humanity descends, from the sacrificial Eve or from the self-determined Lilith?
