MASTERPIECE FULL OF SYMBOLISM
Claude Debussy's only opera »Pelléas et Mélisande« is a dreamlike masterpiece full of subtle moods and symbols. In it, Golaud meets the mysterious Mélisande, but when she meets his half-brother Pelléas after their marriage, a momentous connection develops between the two...

In the semi-staged performance specially conceived for the concert hall, the French opera star Patricia Petibon is finally making her Elbphilharmonie debut as Mélisande. At her side shines the Swiss tenor Bernhard Richter, who has already been celebrated as Pelléas at the Vienna State Opera and the Opéra de Lyon. With the Budapest Festival Orchestra, founded 40 years ago by the Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer, one of the best orchestras in the world is returning to Hamburg.

In der speziell für den Konzertsaal konzipierten halbszenischen Aufführung gibt nun endlich der französische Opernstar Patricia Petibon als Mélisande ihr Elbphilharmonie-Debüt. An ihrer Seite glänzt der Schweizer Tenor Bernhard Richter, der als Pelléas schon an der Wiener Staatsoper und der Opéra de Lyon gefeiert wurde. Mit dem vor 40 Jahren vom ungarischen Dirigenten Iván Fischer gegründeten Budapest Festival Orchestra kehrt außerdem einer der besten Klangkörper der Welt zurück nach Hamburg.
