Peter and the Wolf is a 1936 opera written by the famous Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev . The work was commissioned by the Central Children's Theater of Moscow, with the aim of introducing young people to music; for this reason each character in the story is represented by a musical instrument that intervenes in the story with a motif that respectively characterizes the various protagonists: Peter, the bird, the duck, the cat, the grandfather, the wolf, the hunters and the firing their rifles. The story told is considered simple but at the same time engaging and represents a "classic" much appreciated by adults and children which over the years has achieved its intended aim of bringing a large audience closer to music.
