Ce programme dévoile les passions de l’amour, dépeintes par les deux plus grands maîtres de l’air de cour en France et du song en Angleterre, à la fin du xviie siècle : Michel Lambert (ca 1610-1696) et Henry Purcell (1659-1695). Les styles de chacun de ces compositeurs, si intimement liés au maniement des langues française et anglaise, trouvent en la mezzo-soprano britannique Grace Durham, une interprète idéale, à la diction et à la déclamation délectables.

Ces pièces sont mises en écho avec des œuvres plus tardives du xviiie siècle, autour d’une autre grande histoire d’amour passionnelle et déraisonnable entre deux nations sœurs que sont la France et l’Italie. Outre l’incontournable musique instrumentale de François Couperin (1668-1733) et de Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764), Christophe Rousset a choisi de mettre en valeur une délicieuse cantate d’un autre partisan des Goûts réunis, moins connu mais tout aussi fervent : Jean-Baptiste Stuck (1680-1755).

This program reveals the passions of love, depicted by the two greatest masters of the court air in France and the song in England, at the end of the 17th century : Michel Lambert (ca 1610-1696) and Henry Purcell (1659-1695). The styles of each of these composers, so intimately linked to the handling of the French and English languages, find in the British mezzo-soprano Grace Durham, an ideal interpreter, with delectable diction and declamation.

These pieces echo with later works from the 18th century  , around another great story of passionate and unreasonable love between two sister nations of France and Italy. In addition to the essential instrumental music of François Couperin (1668-1733) and Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764), Christophe Rousset has chosen to highlight a delicious cantata by another supporter of Goûts reunions, less known but very also fervent: Jean-Baptiste Stuck (1680-1755).
