Rachmaninoff’s First Symphony and Fourth Piano Concerto may be among the composer's least known and popular works, but that does not mean they lack worth, emotional depth and charm. In fact, in the capable hands of the up-and-coming Bulgarian pianist Plamena Mangova and the outstanding conductor Dimitris Botinis, these two out-and-out masterpieces promise to move even our most demanding listeners! In the rest of the programme, the Athens State Orchestra performs the Asia Minor Rhapsody, which the great Yannis Constantinides composed as "a musical epitaph to a life and a world forever lost".
