Stories abound in the Southern Tier, the Pocket Opera Project is the telling local stories, old and new, with distinct new voices! Whether that is writing a brand new story that is locally based or telling an old local story in your own way, all submissions included some elements of local history, locations, etc. 4 local students have been selected to have their “Stories of the Southern Tier” transformed into mini-operas—in collaboration with local composers. The selected submissions include the following local stories: We Survived the Flood of 1935! by Archer McIntyre of Whitney Point, Train 61 by Sindhi Zhou of Vestal, Roberson’s Ghosts by Adrian Smith of Whitney Point and The Magical Carousel by Lora Stephens, also of Whitney Point. Each of these titles evoke meaningful reminders of historical events for Binghamtonians. These incredible “pocket operas” come with big theatrical moments and tell deeply human stories filled with adventure, tragedy and magic!
