It was busy on Green Hill. And why not, when Mr. Petr of Jenštejn, the royal chamberlain, visited all the prominent families and invited them to a ball organized by King Vlastibor for the prince's birthday. Mrs. Matilda and her two daughters dressed up in new clothes and had the road guarded, just so they could learn about the rare visitor as soon as possible. Only Cinderella stood sadly by - but when she saw the old beggar woman begging for food, she felt sorry for the poor old woman and immediately gave her a few from the bowl of donuts that she brought to the sisters for breakfast. And here she did badly. Mrs. Matylda reproached her for giving away from a stranger and wanting to make her a beggar. She didn't like Cinderella, because she was her stepdaughter, and she, like the real stepmother, was kind to her. While she pampered her own daughters, Cinderella had to work from morning to night. But she was a good soul and didn't miss it.
