Tick's appearances as a drag queen in Sydney are only moderately successful. When his ex-wife answers and asks him to perform in the hotel she manages in Alice Springs, he brings two friends together, Bernadette, a transsexual who is no longer very fresh, and the young Adam. They embark on the journey of a lifetime across the Australian outback in a dismantled bus named Priscilla. On the way, they do not always expect conflict-free encounters with the inhabitants of a mining town, an urbane Aboriginal tourist guide and the auto mechanic Bob, who has his eye on Bernadette. With Bob's help, Priscilla actually makes it to Alice Springs. Tick ​​looks anxiously towards the meeting with his son: Will Benji accept him for who he is?

 

Stephan Elliott's film was a surprise hit and won an Oscar in 1995.
