Prodaná nevěsta Smetana

Smetana több operája között leginkább Az eladott menyasszony-a (“Prodaná Nevesta”) tartozik bele a cseh nemzeti klasszikus kánonba. Más nyelvekre – “The Bartered Bride” – “az elcserélt” szinonimával szokták fordítani, ami még jobban kidomborítja Smetana operájának komikus, mesebeli jellegét. A falusi szerelmi történet nagyon egyszerű: Marzsenka szereti Jenikot, de a szűlei a helyi gazdag Micha fiát szánták neki férjül. Ám senki sem tudta Jenikon kívül a faluban, hogy ő maga is Micha elveszett fia. Ezért Jenik a legmagasabb árat kéri a házasságközvetítőtől, hogy elálljon a Marzsenkával tervezett frigytől, méghozzá azzal a feltétellel, hogy Marzsenka a Micha legidősebb fiához menjen feleségül. Az alku létrejön, de a végén, mint Moliére vígjátékaiban is, színre lép az apa “igazi fia”. Minden jó, ha a vége jó: a falu népe is boldog, és vidám dalra és táncra perdül.
Smetana annyira el volt bűvölve a mesés történettől, hogy gyönyörű prelúdiumot komponált: az opera nyitánya később önálló koncertdarabként szerepelt.

Among Smetana's several operas, The Bartered Bride ("Prodaná Nevesta") belongs to the Czech national classical canon. In other languages, "The Bartered Bride" is often translated as "the bartered bride", which accentuates the comical, fairy-tale nature of Smetana's opera even more. The love story in the village is very simple: Marzzenka loves Jeniko, but her parents intended for her to marry the son of the rich local Micha. But no one but Jeniko in the village knew that he himself was Micha's lost son. That's why Jenik asks the marriage broker for the highest price in order to withdraw from the marriage he planned with Marzenka, on the condition that Marzenka marries Micha's eldest son. The deal is made, but at the end, as in Moliere's comedies, the father's "real son" takes the stage. All's well that ends well: the people of the village are also happy,
Smetana was so enchanted by the fabulous story that he composed a beautiful prelude: the opera's overture was later performed as an independent concert piece.
