"Romeo and Juliet" is a tragedy by William Shakespeare that tells about the love of a young man and a girl from two warring Verona families - the Montagues and the Capulets. The work was created in the 16th century. The play takes place between 1301 and 1304.

The appearance of the ballet "Romeo and Juliet" is an important turning point in the work of Sergei Prokofiev. It was written in 1935-1936. The libretto was developed by the composer together with director Sergei Radlov and choreographer Leonid Lavrovsky (senior), who performed the first production of the ballet in 1940 at the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater named after S. M. Kirov (now the Mariinsky Theater).

Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev is one of the most popular ballets of the twentieth century. The combination of Shakespeare's great dramaturgy with Prokofiev's score, unique in its melodic richness, does not leave the choreographers of our time indifferent.

The production of Romeo and Juliet on the stage of the Buryat Opera and Ballet Theater will be performed by the descendants of the famous Leonid Lavrovsky: the son and grandson of the choreographer - choreographer Mikhail Leonidovich Lavrovsky and director Leonid Lavrovsky-Garcia Jr.

«Ромео и Джульетта» — трагедия Уильяма Шекспира, рассказывающая о любви юноши и девушки из двух враждующих веронских родов — Монтекки и Капулетти. Произведение создано в XVI веке. Действие пьесы происходит в период с 1301 по 1304 год.

Появление балета «Ромео и Джульетта» составляет важную переломную веху в творчестве Сергея Прокофьева. Он был написан в 1935-1936 годах. Либретто разработано композитором совместно с режиссёром Сергеем Радловым и балетмейстером Леонидом Лавровским (старшим), осуществившим первую постановку балета в 1940 году в Ленинградском театре оперы и балета имени С. М. Кирова (ныне Мариинский театр).
