Rusalka, the daughter of a powerful Aquarius, has fallen madly in love with a human prince. Despite all warnings, she is ready to leave her life behind for her love and become human. The mermaid is ready to make any sacrifice, but the prince, a human and weak, cannot withstand this love. The price that Rusalka ultimately has to pay for their love is high and bitter. As a chamber play, Barrie Kosky's darkly romantic staging of the Czech fairy tale evokes images that are as sensual as they are powerful, which, following the melancholic poetry of Dvořák's music, irresistibly cast a spell over the audience. "Moments of almost surreal beauty, the events remain - as fairy tales are - as poetic as they are enigmatic."
