But the general plans of the stage, where the exciting action takes place, in which classical ballet and modern dance are intertwined, amaze with the beauty of each shot. Stage movement - in complete harmony with the enchanting, then the terrifying music of the most famous Czech opera, which Dvořák called "a lyrical tale". In the new performance, there is neither a lake nor a palace, as the classical libretto prescribes. Everything happens in a synthetic space - a theatrical foyer, in which we see either the bed of a mermaid ballerina who has knocked down her legs, or romantic rocks, or the corpse of a deer. Against this background, the drama of the traumatized Woman-Artist takes place, who acquires the ability to walk, dance, sing and love. American tenor Eric Cutler, playing the Prince, tore his Achilles tendon and underwent surgery a few days before the premiere. As a result, Loy urgently rewrote the mise-en-scenes so that Cutler could perform on crutches, enhancing the drama of the "lame Artist" and "the lame man with love." It's not easy to define in words how to interpret this or that character (probably Vodyanoy is the theater director, and Baba Yaga, sitting behind the corresponding window, is a theater administrator with a difficult character), each character - and the entire brilliant ensemble of performers - is here in its place, their emotions are transmitted to the viewer and touch to the depths of the soul. Loy's production, under the musical direction of the outstanding British conductor Ivor Bolton, is perfection in the scenography by Johannes Lyaker and choreography by Clevis Elmazai.
