Rusalka Dvořák

Rusalka is Czech composer Antonín Dvořák’s most successful opera and tells a story very similar to Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. Its highlight is often considered to be the wistful, haunting ‘Song to the Moon’, in which Rusalka asks the moon to reveal her love to the prince. Dvořák’s composition is achingly stunning, its sound is poetic and sensual and full of wonderful sound effects. 

Conductor Joana Mallwitz leads the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and directed by Philipp Stölzl and Philipp M. Krenn, soprano Johanni van Oostrum sings the role of Rusalka. Czech tenor Pavel Černoch sings the role of the prince, and American mezzo-soprano Raehann Bryce-Davis makes her debut as the witch Ježibaba. A timeless tale of dreams, desire and disappointment.

Is een droom het ultieme offer waard?
Rusalka is de meest geliefde opera van de Tsjechische componist Antonín Dvořák. Beroemd is Rusalka's ‘Lied aan de maan’, waarin zij de maan smeekt haar geliefde te zeggen dat zij op hem wacht. De muziek van de opera is uiterst poëtisch en sensueel en laat de natuur, nimfen en watergeesten in een prachtige klankschildering tot leven komen.

Met dirigent Joana Mallwitz aan het hoofd van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, en onder regie van Philipp Stölzl en Philipp M. Krenn, zingt sopraan Johanni van Oostrum de rol van Rusalka. De Tsjechische tenor Pavel Černoch is de prins, en de Amerikaanse mezzosopraan Raehann Bryce-Davis maakt haar debuut als zeeheks Ježibaba. Een tijdloos verhaal over dromen, verlangen en teleurstelling.
