At last - after several postponements - Opera Siam’s first post-Covid opera is Salome, Richard Strauss’s steaming drama of epic decadence, starring Cassandra Black.

Richard Strauss is one of opera’s “big five” — Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Strauss and Wagner.  But his operas are the only ones that have not yet been produced by a Thai opera company.  Salome has been in preparation since before Covid and we’re happy to announce the it will finally be seen in Thailand.

This opera was a true shocker in the early 20th century, with its erotic subtext and its biblical theme.  Even today, this is music that arouses passionate feelings and it is one of the most important operas of the modern era.

Based on Oscar Wilde’s play (also a shocker!) Salome is 105 minutes of drama, madness, tragedy, passion, and violence, dealing with one of the most infamous stories from the bible.
