When he died early, Franz Schubert left almost 1,000 works, including 600 songs: enough for at least three musical lives. He owes the fact that he was able to be so productive not least to a circle of friends in whom he was always in good hands. The friends brought him poems to set to music, were his first listeners and helped the genius, who was unconcerned about self-marketing, to gain public recognition. Many a masterpiece was first heard in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere: at the »Schubertiads«, the attractively mixed programs of which inspired the trio around the Viennese tenor Daniel Johannsen.

Fast 1000 Werke, davon 600 Lieder, hinterließ Franz Schubert bei seinem frühen Tod: Genug für mindestens drei Musikerleben. Dass er so produktiv sein konnte, verdankte er nicht zuletzt einem Freundeskreis, in dem er immer aufgehoben war. Die Freunde brachten ihm Gedichte zur Vertonung, waren seine ersten Zuhörer und verhalfen dem um Selbstvermarktung unbekümmerten Genie zu öffentlicher Anerkennung. So manches Meisterwerk erklang zuerst in zwanglos geselliger Runde: bei jenen »Schubertiaden«, von deren reizvoll gemischten Programmen sich das Trio um den Wiener Tenor Daniel Johannsen inspirieren ließ.
