The Sinfonia of London are joined by Festival featured artist Roderick Williams for a highly atmospheric programme of orchestral showpieces including Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which famously appeared in Disney’s Fantasia, and a world premiere by Sally Beamish.

Sally Beamish describes her orchestral version of Four Songs from Hafez, commissioned by Britten Pears Arts, as “settings of the 14th-century Persian Sufi poet, each using a bird or animal to describe separation from, and longing for, the Beloved”.

The programme also includes the first of three tone poems by Respighi evoking four Italian fountains at different times of the day. The programme concludes with Rachmaninoff's final composition for orchestra, his Symphonic Dances.

This concert marks the Sinfonia of London’s Aldeburgh Festival debut. Recently re-established by conductor John Wilson, the Sinfonia has already been hailed as one of the leading orchestras in the UK.
